Day 15 Business Plan Competition
Hi everybody,
my name is Gabriele Scoditti and I’m a trainee at the "Mind the Bridge Foundation" in Silicon Valley for few months. I feel very lucky to be here and I’m confident this experience will help me in improving my venture capital market knowledge.
The purpose of this post is to remind you the deadline for the “MtB Business Plan Competition” is the 25th of August (for more information please visit our website at www.mindthebridge.org). If you have an interesting and potentially successful idea in your mind, I suggest you to “MIND THE BRIDGE” and join the competition.
I strongly believe this initiative is a great opportunity for all Italian talents. It's a unique contest, completely different from all the others business plan competitions created so far. "MtB Business Plan Competition" allows to the finalists to develop your idea right here in the stimulating Silicon Valley environment for a certain period of time and you will be able to receive the precious support of successful entrepreneurs and managers who will be your mentors.
Besides I’d like to let you know about the Venture Camp Event: a two days event in Milan in November, where the best projects will expose their idea in front of a top-notch audience made of entrepreneurs and investors. This event will be realized under the sponsorship of IL CORRIERE DELLA SERA and it will be held in the Corriere’s building.
Now I’d like to share with you my personal view of the Silicon Valley after two weeks spent here. This area is certainly a ferment of talents, great ideas and huge capitals. You can easily meet experienced and successful people who will be really pleasured to help you in developing your idea (without ask you anything in return!), sharing with you their knowledge as well as their personal contacts network. The Silicon Valley networking is probably one of the most fascinating aspects of this area and, unfortunately, also one of the main differences with the Italian way of doing business. Networking is a real value in this area and any great idea can easily become a worldwide successful in reality.
What are the other ingredients of the magic receipt called Silicon Valley? I think there is an incredible mix of several factors such as a real entrepreneurial culture, excellent universities and a developed venture capital market. All these factors make a perfect entrepreneurial eco-system. I wonder if one day our generation would be able to recreate this successful model in our beloved country, even though a radical cultural change is absolutely required.
Keep in mind, however, that being here does not mean you are going to be automatically successful. It’s more a possibility for you to really understand both yourself and your business potentialities. Being aware of where you were before, where are you right now and where you are going to and/or which goals your business is able to reach. This awareness is a key element for your future.

Day 13... trova l'errore!
Come on! Ho guidato per la prima volta negli states, e col cambio automatico (my first driving in the USA with the automatic ... emm... yeah it's automatic ...) , peccato che quel cabròn del mio amico messicano ha registrato con il cell al contrario; ho dovuto quindi ruotare il video di 180° e guardate cosa è venuto fuori....trovate l'errore!!!

Mission of the Day 13: Failed
The today mission was to find and buy the loved moka machine (3 cups size), to get a delicious italian espresso on my own. So, thanks to my collegue Elena, I discovered where to find it. After several minutes spent with the shop clerks in front the computer checking the availabilty and trying to explain them what exactly the moka espresso machine is, they just found the bigger one (maybe 6 cups). Damn it!
Can I order it?
Yes.
What about the delivery time?
Oh, well, a couple of weeks, maybe less.
Whatttttttt???? Are you kidding me? I can die without a moka machine within few days.
Oh my God, help me!

Day 12 First californian saturday night!
Prima notte di festa in San Francisco...bella compagnia...belle ragazze (le americane sono come le vediamo in Europa anche in patria) ... un solo problema: il clima! Ebbene si, a San Francisco ad agosto (o fine luglio) è inverno (di fatto). Faceva un freddo bestiale e noi eravamo vestiti come se fosse estate, perchè in Silicon Valley è estate! Anyway I had a great time with these nice Mexican guys!

Day 10
Oggi in ufficio giocavano con una macchina telecomandata. Cosa c'è di strano? Non solo che un gruppo di ragazzoni (tra i 30 e i 50) giocasse con una macchina telecomandata, ma che questa strana macchinina (lunga una decina di centimentri) camminava sulle pareti... Incredibile!

Day 8
Sto seriamente pensando di affittare un auto. 3 km per andare a lavoro la mattina, e altri 3 per tornare dopo quasi 10 ore in ufficio....mi stanno massacrando...Ho deciso: la bicicletta va bene per delle passeggiate rilassanti nel week end, senza fretta, senza traffico, senza dover percorrere il ponte che attraversa la 101...

Day 6
Il primo giorno di lavoro è scivolato via. Come è normale che sia (credo) nella mia testa c'è una confusione enorme: mille cose da capire velocemente, mille da ricordare, e altre mille che non ho capito ma non l'ho detto altrimenti mi rispedivano subito a casa. Scherzi a parte, sono soddisfatto, saranno 3 mesi in cui ci sarà parecchio da lavorare ma lo farò con piacere, perchè in un ambiente molto stimolante e piacevole e perchè farò cose interessanti, godendo di una discreta autonomia e assoluto spirito di intraprendenza....mmm...Se falliranno nei prossimi tre mesi saprete il motivo...

Day 4 seconda parte
Non sentire il tuo capo che ti chiama al cellulare, trovare una sua mail dicendo che voleva incontrarti per un drink e...non aver risposto al cellulare per colpa di un rappresentante di aspirapolveri che faceva casino col suo aggeggio e non poter andare a bere il drink perchè ormai troppo tardi per arrivarci in tempo...è davvero PRICELESS!

Day 3
Due ore e mezza in bici a pedalare sotto il sole californiano. Mi sono perso infinite volte semplicemente per raggiungere il "vicino" centro cittadino (raggiungibile in 5 minuti in bici) e acquistare una sim card americana. Si guys, ora ho il num americano (per chi volesse prendersi la briga di segnarselo qualora volesse mandarmi qualche sms...è +1 650 421 6818). Ora sono stanco (distrutto) e affamato. Il mio ultimo pasto (escludendo i cookies che sto divorando da un'ora a questa parte) risale ad oltre 24 ore fa. Una mezza piadina alle verdure, stracolma di cipolla. Una mezza ciofeca. Digerita svariate ore dopo. Insomma ragazzi, sarò pure in California, ma l'inizio non è semplice!
ps: ho un senso dell'orientamento che fa paura!

Day 1
Non chiudo occhio da non so quante ore. Considerate che prima di partire mi sono messo a letto all'una e alle quattro avevo la sveglia, ma come se non bastasse non ho chiuso l'occhio con l'ansia di non sentire la sveglia. Aggiungete 9 ore di fuso orario e la frittata è fatta, risultato: sono uno straccio!
